Sacramento – a research and vacation destination – you won’t want to miss this conference! Our conference hotel is located across the street from historic Old Town Sacramento State Historic Park, down the street from the California state capitol, and a short drive (or ride share) away from several research and entertainment destinations. So why not combine the conference with a little research and play?
Bring the family or pair with a roommate for all-suites accommodations. Cooked-to-order breakfast and unlimited nightly beverage (alcohol & non-alcohol) reception included for the duration of your stay.
Transportation: The hotel is only 0.6 mile from the Sacramento Valley Station (Amtrak) and less than 12 miles from the Sacramento International Airport. Ride share is the easiest and most economical transport from these transportation hubs to the conference hotel.
The room rate is $259 + taxes and fees, guaranteed only while the room block lasts. An additional $25 per person is charged for each additional guest over the initial 2 per room. That charge guarantees those guests daily breakfast and unlimited nightly beverage (alcohol & non-alcohol) reception. It's a great deal! But they must be on the reservation to receive the perks.
Click the button below to RESERVE your room at the Embassy Suites Sacramento-Riverwalk Promenade, now through April 2, 2026 (or while the room block lasts). You will see a rate of $272/night, which is the room rate + fees. Tax will be added to the total on the final check out screen.
Do you need a roommate? See the link for the WAWH Room Share Spreadsheet in the most recent Executive Director Note (emailed to those on our mailing list). Can't find it, contact the Executive Director at executivedirector@wawh.org for assistance.

Then, guests will be free to explore the museum at their leisure.

Sacramento Underground, After-Hours Tour
Hidden beneath the city for nearly 150 years, Old Sacramento’s underground remains the Capital’s most tantalizing secret. In addition to excavated foundations and enclosed pathways, this after-hours tour will take you through Sacramento’s most peculiar Gold Rush
nightlife. Learn the dirty secrets of Old Sacramento’s quaint shopping district – wall-to-wall gambling, wild saloons by the dozen, duels in the streets, cutthroat politics, frightening steamboat races and “soiled doves” in the shadows. Space is limited for this tour so don’t delay, sign-up today!
Time: 7 – 8:30 pm (we will gather at the WAWH Happy Hour Mixer in advance and walk to the tour’s starting point)
Cost: $22 (a deeply discounted WAWH rate)
Dr. H. Yumi Kim is Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley. She is a historian of Japan and Korea, with research interests in the cultural and social histories of women, gender, medicine, religion, and colonialism in the 19th and 20th centuries. Her first book, Madness in the Family: Women, Care, and Illness in Japan (Oxford University Press, 2022), examines the creation of a gendered and family-based approach to managing madness in Japan at the turn of the twentieth century. It shows how the caregiving obligations of families, and especially the women therein, intensified even as new medical institutions such as psychiatry gained traction. The book was awarded the 2023 John K. Fairbank Prize from the American Historical Association for the best book in East Asian history after 1800. Dr. Kim is currently working on a second book about the persecution of female shamans in the peripheries of the Japanese empire, including the annexed islands of Okinawa and the colonized territory of Cheju Island in what is now South Korea. She is also an award-winning teacher who develops community-engaged courses that help connect Asian and Asian American histories.
The Keynote Luncheon takes place on Friday, April 24, 2026 and is included with Full & Friday registrations.

Program participants (those who will be presenting) must hold current WAWH membership through December 2026. Non-member pricing is NOT available for program participants.
